The Knight and Day star is desperate to boost his box office with a blockbuster return to the action franchise and is suggesting his football megastar pal as part of his plans for the movie.
"Tom Cruise wants to make Mission: Impossible 4 the biggest and best action movie of all time," reveals a movie insider.
"He has already planned some spectacular stunts and amazing action scenes but he also wants some big stars. He's suggesting David for a small cameo role that would be significant to the plot.
"David is a massive star with a huge following worldwide and a lot of people are going to want to see him in a movie."
Cruise recently said David Beckham has "got the looks" to launch an assault on Hollywood and become a huge movie star.
"I've been encouraging him to become an actor," he said last month.
