Former RAF officer Joe Watt said that Prince William of Wales made a mistake in his stint at the Linton-on-Ouse base near York for 12 weeks. Watt claimed the prince grounded one RAF aircraft after he tapped the wrong switch and 'overcooked' the engine during his training.
The retired engineering officer explained, "He flicked the wrong switch on shutdown and overcooked the turbo. I think he switched it back on. The engine tries to start again when it is stopping. He's not the only one, we've had two or three. Better pilots than him have done it."
He commented further that the mistake occurred maybe because there were two pilots. "If one thinks the engine is off and the other does not think he has switched it off, he can switch it back on."
Above all, after checking the aircraft, it was revealed that no damage has been done.
