Japanese fans shunt comic image of Elvis Presley

Saturday, February 6 2010

Japanese are one of the most passionate fans in the world. For example, we can take the case of David Beckham. What other nation will build a 10 feet solid chocolate statue just to welcome David Beckham in Tokio? But when it comes to Japan and Elvis Presley, the King really is dead.

Usually, the annual Elvis Presley birthday memorial concert used to gather thousands and thousands of fans. Now, the organizers are expecting only a few hundreds. Why is that?

In 2007, the Elvis Fan Club of Japan has been consumed in an inferno of financial dispute and recriminations. Tadayuki Akazawa, the club’s chairman, died and the flame of Japanese Elvis enthusiasm began to gutter. However, even if the Japanese enthusiasm is going down, Elvis still remains "The King" and the greatest artist off all time.
