30 Days of Night director David Slade was chosen by Summit Entertainment as the man behind the third Twilight film.
The author of the famous book series, Stephenie Meyer, approved of the selection and said in a statement that Slade is a "visionary filmmaker."
The third film is set for release in summer 2010. Twilight, which became a box-office success, drew $380 million in ticket sales worldwide. It also prompted the fame of the lead stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Director David Slade's breakthrough performance was in the movie Hard Candy which starred Ellen Page, the actress who played the role Juno in the award-winning film with the same title. In 2007, he also did 30 Days of Night, a movie about vampires in Alaska.
