Lauryn Hill wanted a real life

Lauryn Hill wanted a real life

Thursday, September 9 2010

Lauryn Hill claims that she dropped her career because she wanted a "real life" away from the spotlight.

The rapper who was very acclaimed for her debut with the solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998 says she disappeared from the public eye after becoming disillusioned with the music industry.

"I wanted to be able to live, to reclaim my private life, to reclaim my individuality outside of mass media scrutiny. I wanted that freedom to do whatever I wanted to do."

We found out that the singer is about to release another album

"We're getting closer," she said earlier this week. "We're getting closer. That's all I can say. I have respect for what people do.

I also like to hear the eclectics, I like to hear the mixture. There are a lot of different creative energies out there right now. I respect the different sounds that I'm hearing."

"It's been such a long time since I've gotten my voice and my ideas [out]. In terms of collaborations, that's not even something I've been thinking about per se.

I'm happy that people are still making music. That we still have a platform with which to make music. It's gonna be interesting to see what the future holds."
