William Joseph Slim, 1st Viscount Slim (1891-1970) was a veteran of Gallipolli, Turkey, in World War I, he commanded the 14th "forgotten" army 1943-1945, stemming the Japanese invasion of India at Imphal and Kohima, and then recovered Burma (now Myanmar).
