Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945) was an American novelist, formerly a Chicago journalist.

Short Biography:

He wrote the naturalistic novels "Sister Carrie" in 1900 and "An American Tragedy" in 1925, based on the real-life crime of a young man who in "making good" kills a shop assistant he has made pregnant.

It was filmed as Splendor in the Grass in 1961.
