Stanislav Shushkevich (born in 1934) was elected to parliament as a "reform communist" in 1990 and played a key role in the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Short Biography:
A supporter of free-market reforms, he opposed alignment of Belarus' economic and foreign policy with that of neighbouring Russia. He was replaced in January 1994 by Mechisiav Grib, a former communist.
