Sergei Mikhailovich Eizenshtein (1898-1948) was a Latvian film director.

Short Biography:

He pioneered the use of montage (a technique of deliberately juxtaposing shots to create a particular meaning) as a means of propaganda, as in The Battleship Potemkin in 1925.

His Alexander Nevsky in 1938 was the first part of an uncompleted trilogy, the second part, Ivan the Terrible in 1944, being banned in Russia.
