Samuel Richardson (1689-1761) book "Pamela" 1740-1741, written in the form of a series of letters, and containing much dramatic conversation, achieved a sensational vogue all across Europe, and was followed by Clarissa 1747-1748, and Sir Charles Grandison 1753-1754.
