Samuel Alexander (1859-1938) was an Australian philosopher, who originated the theory of emergent evolution: that the space-time matrix evolved matter, matter evolved life; life evolved mind; and finally God emerged from mind.

His books include Space, Time and Deity 1920. He was professor at Manchester University 1893-1924.
