Plutarch (c. AD 46-120) lectured on philosophy at Rome, and was appointed procurator of Greece by Hadrian.

Short Biography:

His Parallel Lives comprise biographies of pairs of Greek and Roman soldiers and politicians, followed by comparisons between the two. Thomas North's in 1579 translation inspired Shakespeare's Roman plays.
