Piero della Francesca (c. 1420-1492) work has a solemn stillness and unusually solid figures, luminous colour and compositional harmony.

Short Biography:

It includes a fresco series, The Legend of the True Cross (South Francesco, Arezzo), begun about 1452. Piero wrote two treatises, one on mathematics, one on the laws of perspective in painting.
