Oliver Tambo (1917-1993) was a South African nationalist politician, in exile 1960-1990, president of the African National Congress (ANC) 1977-1991.
Short Biography:
Because of poor health, he was given the honorary post of national chair in July 1991, and Nelson Mandela resumed the ANC presidency.
Tambo was expelled from teacher training for organizing a student protest, and joined the ANC in 1944. He set up a law practice with Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg in 1952.
