Neil Alden Armstrong is an American astronaut. On 20 July 1969, he was the first person to set foot on the Moon, saying, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

Short Biography:

Born in Ohio, he gained his pilot's licences at 16, and served as a naval pilot in Korea 1949-1952 before joining NASA as a test pilot.

He was selected to be an astronaut in 1962.
