Max Planck (1858-1947) was appointed to the chair of physics at Kiel in 1885 and Berlin in 1889. Much of his early work was in thermodynamics.
Short Biography:
From 1930 to 1937, he was president of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1918, and became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1926.
