Llewelyn I (1173-1240) was King of Wales from 1194, who extended his rule to all Wales not in Norman hands, driving the English from North Wales in 1212, and taking Shrewsbury in 1215.
During the early part of Henry Ill's reign, he was several times attacked by English armies. He was married to Joanna, illegitimate daughter of King John.
