Henry VIII (1491-1547) was the King of England from 1509, when he succeeded his father Henry VII and married Catherine of Aragon, the widow of his brother.
Short Biography:
His Lord Chancellor, Cardinal Wolsey, was replaced by Thomas More in 1529, for failing to persuade the pope to grant Henry a divorce. After 1532 Henry broke with the Catholic church, proclaimed himself head of the church, and dissolved the monasteries.
