Athelstan (c. 895-939) was the King of the Mercians and West Saxons.

Short Biography:

Son of Edward the Elder and grandson of Alfred the Great, he was crowned king in 925 at Kingston-upon-Thames.

He subdued parts of Cornwall and Wales, and in 937 defeated the Welsh, Scots, and Danes at Brunanburh.
