John Ernst Steinbeck (1902-1968) work includes Of Mice and Men in 1937, The Grapes of Wrath in 1939, Cannery Row in 1945, and East of Eden in 1952. He won a Nobel prize in 1962.
Short Biography:
He first achieved success with Tortilla Flat in 1935, a humorous study of Monterey, California, paisanos (farmers); most of his books deal with the lives of working people. East of Eden was filmed with James Dean. His later work, less highly thought of, includes Winter of our Discontent in 1961.
