Thora Janette Scott was born on 14 December 1938 in Morecambe, England to parents Jimmy Scott and Thora Hird, who are actors. She started her acting career as a child actress, known as Janette Scott, and became a popular leading lady.

Among her best known roles was as April Scott in the 1960 film School for Scoundrels, based on the "One-upmanship" books by Stephen Potter, in which Ian Carmichael and Terry-Thomas competed for her attention.
