Jacques Delors (born in 1925) was a French socialist politician, finance minister 1981-1984.

Short Biography:

As president of the European Commission from 1984 he has overseen significant budgetary reform and the move towards a free European Community market in 1992, with increased powers residing in Brussels.

Delors, the son of a Paris banker, worked as social-affairs adviser to Prime Minister Jacques Chaban-Delmas 1969-1972 before joining the Socialist Party in 1973.
