Giorgia Palmas was born on March 5, 1982, in Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy. She started modelling in 1998 and she won Miss Italy in 2000.
Her win at the Miss Italy contest made Giorgia eligible to participate in 2000's Miss World beauty pageant. She finished as the first runner-up behind Miss India, Priyanka Chopra.

Though Giorgia couldn't win the pageant, yet her performance opened up flood gates of opportunities for her.
