Gilbert Murray (1866-1957) was a British scholar.

Short Biography:

Born in Sydney, Australia, he was taken to England in 1877, and was professor of Greek at Glasgow University (1889-1899) and at Oxford (1908-1936).

Author of History of Ancient Greek Literature in 1897, he became best known for verse translations of the Greek dramatists, especially Euripides, making the plays more accessible to modern readers.
