Pen name of Mary Ann Evans (1819-1880) was a English novelist, who portrayed Victorian society, particularly its intellectual hypocrisy, with realism and irony.
Short Biography:
In 1857 she published the story "Amas Barton", the first of the Scenes of Clerical Life. This was followed by the novels Adam Bede in 1859, The Mill on the Floss in 1860, and Silas Mamer in 1861.
