George Balanchine (1904-1983) was an Russian-born choreographer.
Short Biography:
After leaving the USSR in 1924, he worked with Diaghilev in France.
Moving to the USA in 1933, he became a major influence on modem dance, starting the New York City Ballet in 1948.
His many works include "Apollon Musagete" in 1928 and "The Prodigal Son" in 1929 for Diaghilev, several works for music by Stravinsky such as "Agon" in 1957 and "Duo Concertante" in 1972, and musicals such as "On Your Toe
