Elizabeth Blackwell (1821-1910) was the First British woman to qualify in medicine, in 1849.

Short Biography:

Blackwell studied medicine at the University of Geneva in New York State. On her return to Britain, she became the first woman to appear in the Medical Register.

Her example inspired Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and many other aspiring female doctors.
