Duccio di Buoninsegna (c. 1255-1319) was a Italian painter, a major figure in the Sienese school.
Short Biography:
His greatest work is his altarpiece for Siena Cathedral, the Maesta 1308-1311; the figure of the Virgin is Byzantine in style, with much gold detail, but Duccio also created a graceful linear harmony in drapery hems, for example, and this proved a lasting characteristic of Sienese style.
