Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig (1861-1928) was a British army officer, commander in chief in World War I.
Short Biography:
His Somme (France) offensive in the summer of 1916 made considerable advances only at enormous cost, and his Passchendaele (Belgium) offensive (July-November 1917) achieved little at huge loss. He was created field marshal 1917.
