Czeslaw Milosz (1911-2007) became a diplomat before defecting and taking US nationality.

Short Biography:

His poetry in English translation includes Selected Poems in 1973 and Bells in Winter (1978). Among his novels are The Seizure of Power (1955) and The Issa Valley (1981). He won the Nobel prize in 1980.
