Andre Gide (1869-1951) was a French novelist, born in Paris.
Short Biography:
His work is largely autobiographical and concerned with the themes of self-fulfilment and renunciation.
It includes L'Immoraliste / The Immoralist in 1902, La Porte itroite / Strait is the Gate in 1909, Les Caves du Vatican / The Vatican Cellars in 1914, and Les Faux-monnayeurs / The Counterfeiters in 1926; and an almost lifelong Journal.
He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947.
