Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) was a Swiss sculptor and painter, who trained in Italy and Paris.

Short Biography:

In the 1930s, in his Surrealist period, he began to develop his characteristic spindly constructions.

His mature style of emaciated single figures, based on wire frames, emerged in the 1940s. Some are so elongated that they seem almost without volume. Man Pointing in 1947 is one of many examples in the Tate Gallery, London.
