George Romney (1734-1802) painted several portraits of Lady Hamilton, Admiral Nelson's mistress.
Short Biography:
Born in Lancashire, the son of a carpenter and cabinet-maker, Romney was virtually self-taught. He set up as a portraitist in 1757, and, deserting his family, in 1762 he went to London. There he became, with Gainsborough and Reynolds, one of the most successful portrait painters of the late 18th century.
