George Frederick Watts (1817-1904) painted allegorical, biblical, and classical subjects, investing his work with a solemn morality. Many of his portraits are in the National Portrait Qallery, London.
Short Biography:
Born in London, he studied in the Royal Academy schools. In 1864 he married the actress Ellen Terry: later the marriage was dissolved.
As a sculptor he executed Physical Energy for Cecil Rhodes' memorial in South Africa; a replica is in Kensington Gardens, London.
