Edward William Elgar (1857-1934) "Enigma Variations" appeared in 1899, and although his celebrated choral work, the oratorio setting of Newman's The Dream of Gerontius, was initially a failure, it was well received at Dusseldorf in 1902.
Short Biography:
Many of his earlier works were then performed, including the Pomp and Circumstance marches.
