Dharmendra Singh Deol was born on 8 December 1935 in Punjab into a Punjabi family in Punjab state to Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and Satwant Kaur. He spent his childhood in a village named Sahnewal, in Ludhiana. His father was a school headmaster in the village of Lalton Ludhiana where the family moves after.
