Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) was a German dramatist and poet, who aimed to destroy the suspension of disbelief usual in the theatre and to express Marxist ideas.
Short Biography:
He adapted John Gay's Beggars Opera as Die Dreigroschenoper/The Threepenny Opera in 1928, set to music by Kurt Weill.
Later plays include Mutter Courage/Mother Courage in 1941, set in the Thirty Years' War, and Der kaukasische KreidekreislThe Caucasian Chalk Circle in 1949.
