At the beginning of the 50s Ruth Handler observed that her little girl, Barbara and her friends were playing with dolls that represented adult women but also children. Handler thought it was important for her little girl to know how will be like when they grow mature, and because at the time the dolls representing women were made of paper, she decided to create a "women doll", which she named Barbie, as her daughter.
