Kurt Waldheim (1918-2007) was secretary general of the United Nations 1972-1981, having been Austria's representative there 1964-1968 and 1970-1971.

Short Biography:

In 1986 he was elected president of Austria, but his tenure of office was clouded by revelations that during World War II he had been an intelligence officer in an army unit responsible for transporting Jews to death camps.
