James I (1566-1625) was King of England from 1603 and Scotland (James VI) from 1567.
Short Biography:
The son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Lord Darnley, he succeeded on his mother's abdication from the Scottish throne, assumed power in 1583, established a strong centralized authority, and in 1589 married Anne of Denmark (1574-1619).
