Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi (1746-1827) was a Swiss educationalist who advocated Rousseau's "natural" principles (of natural development and the power of example), and described his own theories in Wie Gertrude ihre Kinder lehrt/How Gertrude Teaches her Children in 1801. He stressed the importance of mother and home in a child's education.
