Claude Simon (1913-2005) was originally an artist, he abandoned the "time structure" in such novels as La Route de Flandres/The Flanders Road in 1960, Le Palace in 1962, and Histoire in 1967.

His later novels include Les Giorgiques in 1981 and L' Acacia in 1989. He won the Nobel prize in 1985.
