Lorne Michaels (full name Lorne David Lipowitz) was born on November 17, 1944, in Toronto, Ontario. After studying at the University of Toronto, he worked in radio programmes for CBC. He moved to Los Angeles and began writing comedy scripts. He wrote for shows like Laugh-In and The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show.
