Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989) was an Austrian conductor.

Short Biography:

He was conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (1955-1989). He directed the Salzburg Festival from 1964 and became director of the Vienna State Opera in 1976.

He is associated with the Classical and Romantic repertoire - Beethoven, Brahms, Mahler, and Richard Strauss.
