Herman Melville's masterpiece "Moby Dick" was published in 1851, drawing upon the author's experience at sea. The book is about a whaling voyage on the Pequod, whose captain, Ahab obsessed with chasing Moby Dick, the great white whale, finally dies while harpooning him. But the novel is more than a whaling story, its main theme being the Man's fight against the conditions of his existance.
