The other day, the Police had brought an abrupt halt to an auction held in Madrid for the sale of the bell of Christopher Columbus' ship. It was alleged that that bell had been rung when America had been discovered.
The momentous relic was just about to be put up for bidding at a hotel with the opening price of a whopping $1 million (£620,000) in front of prospective purchasers and anxious spectators, when the Spanish police had come there and prevented the bell from being sold.
