Avril Lavigne won a chance to sing alongside Shania Twain in 1998 by winning a music competition. She sung on stage with Shania at a concert at Ottawa. From here her journey to fame began.

In 2000 she was signed by Arista Records. Avril insisted to write her own songs and as a result she didn't get along well with the record people. She then collaborated with the production team Matrix and than her first album "Let Go" was released.
