Shell Harris: I have always been a fan of to 10 lists and one night I started searching for internet and interesting to 10 lists and while I found a few there was no site devoted to the top 10 list. So, when you can't find something you tend to want to create it yourself, so I did. And http://www.TopTenz.net was born.
FW Editor: Did you always have this structure in mind, or did the quizzes and blog come later on, after the actual listings? Shell Harris: I have experimented add other things to the site such as quizzes and even a forum for a few months, but the site's popularity has always been because to the top 10 list. Spending my time on other features that never took off seemed a waste of my time and wasn't something I particularly like doing. As a result, I have put the focus back on creating the best top 10 lists on the web.
FW Editor: What is the craziest top ten list you have received from a writer with the request to publish it? FW Editor: If you were to create another top x lists site, what would that X stand for and how would you go about it? Shell Harris: If I were to pick another number, I would choose 3. Why 3? Well, it would allow more research time to be spent on each item on the list and lead to more in depth discussion and less time wasted on less relevant list items. So, if something was on a top 3 list, you know it deserves to be there and the research would back it up. If I were to insert a topic, I would choose Top Helpful Website Lists. There are so many great sites that people aren't aware of.

Shell Harris: I rarely laugh at things I write, but the Top 10 Boardgames We Secretly Hate - http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-board-games-we-secretly-hate.php - will make me laugh every time. It is a list I’ve had in my head since I was a child, hating many family boardgames.
FW Editor: Is there any other humanitarian organization or cause that you wish to uphold with the help of TopTenz besides standup2cancer.org? Shell Harris: At this time, funds for the site are limited to pay the hosting fees, writer fees and other marketing expenses. But if finance allow in the future, I would like to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society - http://www.nationalmssociety.org/ - to bring an end to this debilitating disease.
FW Editor: What category of top 10 lists is the most viewed? Shell Harris: That is an easy answer, the category relating to Sex - http://www.toptenz.net/lists/sex. Even though Toptenz.net is a PG (family) site, we still post some some lists that delve on this sensitive subject. The Bizarre (http://www.toptenz.net/lists/bizarre) and People (http://www.toptenz.net/lists/people) categories come in second and third.
FW Editor: To what other endeavors do you think Top Tenz will lead you to in the future? Shell Harris: It is my hope that TopTenz.net will become a book. There are so many well written lists that really get you thinking, it would be a shame if they never made it to the written page. A weekly radio show would be great.
