Yahoo Sets up New Music Service

Yahoo Sets up New Music Service

Tuesday, April 7 2009

by Joe Halls

Yahoo Inc. ventures with other online music providers as it revives its approach in the digital music industry. With its goal to have a more open service, it incorporates products, services and applications developed by other companies.

"We really want to focus on providing the service that's most valuable to users, and then partner with third parties to provide the entire set of music services," Michael Spiegelman, Yahoo Music General Manager, said.

The revised Artist Pages on Yahoo Music will provide information from tour dates, concert tickets, photos, to latest news and updates.

Based on a research by ComScore in December last year, Yahoo Music ranked number 2 as an online music site with 19.6 million unique visitors. AOL Music of Time Warner Inc. was the number 1 with 24.6 million visitors.
