X-Men Origins: Wolverine shatters the box-office results on its first week of release. It is considered 20th Century Fox's best-ever non-holiday film at the U.S. box office reaping $87 million in ticket sales.

Chris Aronson, Fox senior VP of distribution, said, "Audiences have a huge appetite for Hugh Jackman, for the character Wolverine, and the Wolverine that Hugh has created. Almost half of the moviegoers polled said the film was better than expected."

Next in line is Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with $15.3 million; then Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter's Obsessed bowed at number three with $12.2 million. The fourth placer is Zac Efron's 17 Again, while Reese Witherspoon's Monsters vs. Aliens grabbed the fifth spot grossing $5.8 million.
